SUMMER 2019 WORKSHOPS
TEEN BALLET TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP
This workshop masterclass series is designed for teen dancers interested in strengthening their dance skills at whatever skill level they are currently working. We’ve specially designed this workshop to be taken individually or as a full series to suit the needs of the dancer. Each week will focus on a different and fundamental aspect of dance and will help dancers to focus their attention on the area most needed for themselves. We encourage both advanced and beginner teen dancers to attend as we will focus on the technical and artistic aspects of ballet technique to help student’s prepare to take their craft to the next level. This workshop is ideal for teen dancers wishing to prepare for the upcoming dance school year, or for those unable to attend a longer summer intensive.

SESSION I: Back-To-School Tune Up
Wednesday July 24th 9am-12pm
Whether you have never danced before or need a good “tune up” before the Back-To-School season, this class is a basic introduction to classical ballet that will provide a serious workout. We will learn fundamental technique through gentle warm ups and traditional barre exercises: plies, battement tendu, jeté, ronde de jamb, fondu, frappe, grand battement. Each element will be explained so that dancers can each attain the “Aha!” moment of understanding and being able to repeat exercises. After a short break, students will be able to translate their barre work to the center of the room and practice the same principles. We will finish class with a cool down stretch segment to keep soreness at bay.
SESSION II: Re-align for Maximum Access
Wednesday July 31st 9am-12pm
Get back in gear for the Fall semester with this Master class. Catie Tramel prioritizes her students’ health and correct technique, so this class will explain the movements and take extra care to help dancers find proper alignment in order to dance more easily. Working through foundational ballet vocabulary, we will clarify the alignment, use of energy, physics of balance, etc. to give students access to their maximum hip rotation, leg extension, and back flexibility.
SESSION III: Comprehensive Master Class
Wednesday August 7th 9am-12pm
This three hour segment is a comprehensive course to get fully prepared for the Fall. Dancers will begin class with a formal bow and a slow warm up that allows time for reflection and meditation. We will work through traditional barre exercises, and move to centerwork to apply the movement across the floor. Once the class is warm, we will set aside time to stretch. Center classwork will include adagio, a few pirouette combinations, and move into petite allegro and grand allegro. This series will provide students with specific corrections and exercises to prepare them for a successful dance year.
