This weekend workshop series is intended for adults who are interested in learning the foundations of ballet technique, getting in shape and exploring the enjoyment of creative movement through dance. Beginning with foundational aspects of ballet such as positions, terminology and basic ballet exercises to build strength, coordination and balance and ending with the jumps and leaps characteristic of this challenging artistic form this will take beginning and returning students of ballet alike through the process of developing their inner dancer. This workshop is intended to suit both beginner students and intermediate or advanced students wishing to strengthen their foundational skills and improve technique. It is recommended students take Parts 1-3 for full benefit but are welcomed to enroll in each weekend separately.

Part I: Foundations of Ballet Technique: $150

Saturday, June 22nd 1:30pm-4:30pm
Sunday, June 23rd 1:30pm-4:30pm

This weekend intensive workshop will focus on the foundations of ballet technique including positions, terminology, alignment and barre exercises. The workshop will move students methodically through basic barre exercises to aid in building the mental and physical strength necessary to advance to center work and build the muscle and flexibility necessary for dance. The workshop will move moderately and purposely to ensure proper understanding of proper anatomy and alignment. For existing students of ballet this workshop would be excellent for refining alignment, and developing mindful basic movement principles.

Part II: Balance, Centerwork and Turns $150

Saturday, July 13th 1:30pm-4:30pm
Sunday, July 14th 1:30pm-4:30pm

This weekend will build on the foundations of week one and begin to integrate center work, balance and the foundations of turning (both at the barre and in the center). Participants will work with the knowledge gained in week one to begin balancing and moving in the center and connecting barre fundamentals to prepare for turning and moving through space with ease. Exercises will begin moving a bit faster and will integrate more ballet vocabulary. For existing students of ballet this workshop would be excellent for troubleshooting balance deficiencies, perfecting turning alignment and working on balance and grace in the center.

Part III: Jumps and Connecting Movement $150

Saturday, August 3rd 1:30pm-4:30pm
Sunday, August 4th 1:30pm-4:30pm

This weekend will help students connect the dots from the previous workshops and will begin integrating the basic fundamentals of jumping (both petit allegro and grand allegro foundations). Movements will become larger and instruction will focus on proper alignment, using the plié to help propel movement and help students to feel comfortable moving through space to begin to feel as though they’re truly dancing. For existing ballet students this class would be excellent for perfecting basic jumps and connecting steps to create greater fluidity and creative freedom.
